SHOW INTRODUCTION Today’s show about raising food started in the Autumn of 1973 when two young women in their twenties who came from somewhere else found themselves roommates in a small uninsulated wood slate cabin in the Los Padres National Forest. New students at Tassajara Zen Mountain Center, they both discovered something that serves them still in their late middle age: the ties that bind us to each other and the earth; being raised up from the ground of the wild world with feet firmly planted, heads in the clouds. This is something you never forget; and you never forget the people who shared it with you. I’m so happy today to be interviewing Wendy Johnson, Buddhist meditation teacher and organic gardening mentor who reluctantly left Tassajara after two years to live and work at Green Gulch Farm, returning the following Fall to hike me out of the wildness back into the world of people and cars. Today we discuss her book, which is about caring for the planet and raising yourself and your food. What could be more sustainable and local then that!
