SHOW INTRODUCTION People I work with tell me that despite knowing what promotes wellness, they seem unable to comply. This is often a source of deep disappointment. The problem, I believe, lies in whether the desire to be well conflicts with deeper urges and, most importantly, where the ideas about what’s healthy come from. People who live, work, and interact tend to follow what others are doing, whether it’s good for them or not. Social networking, local knowledge, it’s how we learn—from each other. But when the greater society has disdain for individuality and biological uniqueness, or when everything becomes a commodity, health suffers. So it’s hard to do stuff that’s different, that hasn’t been recommended. And it’s hard to pay attention to yourself when so much is competing for your attention. Still, how you care for yourself is all about you. It reflects your inner relationship. And for many, that relationship gets short shrift. Why is that?
