SHOW INTRODUCTION About ten years ago I interviewed psychologist Dr. Elaine Aron who wrote a series of books about highly sensitive people. She meant people who are easily stimulated and tend to get overwhelmed. She produced the statistic that about 20% of the population is highly sensitive. After I did the show I was flooded with phone calls from people who felt themselves to be highly sensitive, far above 20% of my listeners. This experience has been echoed in my practice where I see many people who report symptoms of extreme hyperarousal and sensitivity. No surprise, they don’t get much help from conventional medicine. They do get a lot of medications though. From insomnia to depression with neurological symptoms, diabetes, alcoholism, tummy aches, and ezcema in between, I see people who are sensitive but don’t know they are. The first step to helping is identifying the irritants. Today we examine Multiple Chemical sensitivity and Electro-sensitivity as underpinnings to much of modern chronic illness.
